Pearl Color Guide

Practical pearl reference for jewelry designers, studios, and independent brands.

What Does Pearl Color Mean?

Pearl color includes body color, overtone, and orient. These layers can make two pearls with the same general color name look very different under real light.

Color Components

Body Color

The dominant visible color, such as white, cream, pink, lavender, orange, silver, or dark tones.

Overtone

A secondary tint visible over the body color, such as rose, silver, green, or gold.

Orient

A shifting iridescent effect created by light interacting with the nacre layers.

Common Design Directions

  • White and cream: classic, bridal, and versatile.
  • Pink and lavender: soft, romantic, and contemporary.
  • Orange and gold: warm, rich, and statement-led.
  • Metallic and multicolor: strong visual movement and one-of-a-kind character.

Natural and Treated Colors

Natural colors usually show subtle variation. Treated colors may be stronger or more uniform. Treatment should be disclosed when known.

FAQ

Can the same natural color be reordered exactly?
